Songsterr Redesign

Solo Project

Role: UX/UI Designer, Researcher

Time: 3 Months

Tools: Figma, Jitter

Overview

Introduction + The Problem

Songsterr is an app made for musicians, primarily guitarists, to find or upload tabs and arrangements of songs. When tasked with improving the micro-interactions and task flow of an app for a class project, I decided this app could benefit from a rework.

The current task flow of Songsterr.
Goals
  • Define and clarify the user journey of the app.
  • Add or improve the micro-interactions for a better user experience.
  • Conduct research to make an effective rebrand of the app.
  • Create a fully animated demo portraying the added micro-interactions.
Process

The project went through 3 distinct stages, starting with idea crafting for the micro-interactions and rebrand of the app. From there, I honed in on the wireframing phase. Finally, I would take everything I already had, and compile them all together by creating animated demos in Jitter.

Development

Solving the Problem

Songsterr’s app had issues with the user journey that could be amended by improving and adding certain micro-interactions. I would have to prove that these changes were viable and had merit in my demos.

Workflow

This project was my introduction into lots of new territory. In prior projects, there was not an emphasis on interactions at such a fine level. I was also using the software Jitter for the first time, to animate these types of interactions I did not have experience with. This all meant I spent lots of time consulting my professors and peers, to make sure my work was as refined as it could be.

Evolution

As time went on with this project, I gained a much deeper understanding of micro-interactions. This knowledge helped me make interactions that truly benefited the flow and cohesion of the app.

Results

Final Product

My final design makes substantial changes to Songsterr through micro-interactions that improve the user journey. These interactions are also displayed effectively through the demos created in Jitter.

Reflection

I believe my work with Songsterr’s redesign is some of my best. By this point, I had developed an eye for good design through other projects, so the visual changes for the app came easily. This gave me much more time to develop my skills with the new principles and software I was working with.
